Coyote Fur

Coyote fur is taken from the body of the coyote as opposed to the tail.  This body fur is extremely dense and soft but with long guard hairs that total about 2-inches in length.  Coyote has become very common in fly tying, especially for saltwater flies for bonefish and permit.  The color variations produce a very realistic appearance while maintaining the soft, flowing movement so necessary in our flies.

Coyote hair is also used in fly tying for trout baitfish minnow patterns and has the perfect coloration for small suckers, minnows, etc. We've also seen it used for some large mouse patterns.
