The T&T Zone rod is a beautiful casting rod with impressively smooth casting performance and stunning aesthetics. The MPX line loads this rod wonderfully at close and far distances. We've taken all the guess work out for you by pairing this rod with the perfect line and a reel that balances perfectly and looks great on the rod.
We are line geeks here at PFF and continuously try different lines on different rods... and the SA MPX won for this combo. The MPX line is possibly the most popular and best selling trout line of them all and it is fabulous... yes fabulous... on the Zone rod.

Thomas & Thomas Zone Rod - 9-foot, 5-weight, 4-piece rod
The T&T freshwater Zone rods are fast action rods, but they still have a ton of feel through out the entire rod blank, all the way down into the cork. They have a lot of power in the lower section of the rod and yet have a soft enough tip section that they can mend the fly line extremely well, making them an excellent trout rod. The Zone 9' 5wt really is a great all around trout rod. It does everything very well. It's accurate and loads quick for those short critical casts with small dry flies, has the sensitivity for nymphing, and has the power to throw some pretty good sized streamers. More info.
Nautilus X XM Reels
The Nautilus X reels are very light weight, yet are extremely strong in design. They have a SCF-X sealed drag, that is a Teflon and carbon disc drag that is very smooth. The reel frame leaves a lot of the spool exposed, so it is easy to palm the reel, if you need to add pressure during the fight. The X series of reels look and feel great on the T&T Zone rods, and are a great reel for trout fishing. More info.
Scientific Anglers MPX - 5wt
The Scientific Anglers MPX fly line is the new gold standard for floating fly lines. For years, the go-to fly line in the Scientific Anglers lineup was the GPX taper. From tossing small dries to slinging huge streamers, the GPX could do it all. But all good things must come to an end. Built a half-size heavy, the MPX taper starts where the GPX left off. Redesigned with more mass toward the front of the head, the MPX provides the same benefits of the GPX, with an added emphasis on presentation. The power is still there, only with an added bit of finesse. Meet your new best friend and the best all-around fly line Scientific Anglers says they've ever made. More info.
