Capt. Ben Zander

Manager & Guide

Ben Zander is Pacific Fly Fishers' Manager and you will find him helping customers, working on orders, and helping with our many fly fishing classes. Ben is also the owner and head guide of Sound Fly Fishing, a salt water guide service. He has developed a following of customers that take his advice on fishing Puget Sound for sea-run cutthroat trout and salmon and we attribute that to his willingness to help anglers, his enthusiasm for our sport and a sense of humor that is just plain fun to be around.

Ben was raised in the Shoreline area just blocks from Puget Sound. He has been fishing the waters of the Pacific Northwest for many years and considers Puget Sound to be his home waters. Much of his fly tying and fishing time is focused on the saltwater and he is constantly developing new patterns for sea-run cutthroat.

Along with the saltwater, however, Ben also frequents the streams and lakes of British Columbia, Montana, Wyoming, Washington and the tarpon infested waters of the Gulf of Mexico & Caribbean. His knowledge of the hundreds of small local lakes and streams is impressive and a good resource for us and our customers.

Ben Zander has the following affiliations and accreditation:

  • Simms Guide Ambassador
  • Sage Elite Pro
  • Licensed USCG OUPV Operator

Things you'll hear Ben say:

  • "Yellow Sally. The only fly you need is a Yellow Sally"
  • "Mmmm... sea lice"
  • "Does that come in turquoise?"
  • "Michael, I'm guiding Monday, I will be here Tuesday, but if you are not here Wednesday I will guide Thursday and be here on Saturday"
