Probably the most popular variation of the original "copper" Copper John, the "red" Copper John is a great searching pattern that you can catch fish on all year. They sink very quickly and have built-in flash all over the place. Keep a few in your nymph box and, at the very least, give them a shot when things are slow. You might find it becomes one of your favorites too.
