Baja Mexico Roosterfish Fly Fishing

Michael Bennett shows off a big roosterfish taken during our hosted trip to Mexico's Baja Peninsula in 2019. It doesn't get much more exciting than watching three or four roosters carving up the surface with their combs out of the water chasing bait. 10-weight rods, intermediate sinking lines, and reels with plenty of backing are the necessary tools. The fishing goes from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye when the roosters show up on the surface chasing bait or are following a teaser. It takes a aligning of the stars to get the fish to take the fly, but when they do, it is pure adrenaline to say the least.  Photo Kyler Ries.  May 2019.
