Banks Lake in Eastern Washington is full of smallmouth bass, but it also has a good largemouth population. This day, the largemouth were in shallow weed flats and willing to eat deer hair poppers like the one you see here. In that shallow, extremely clear water, keeping a good distance from the fish and making careful casts was critical. Some of the fish could be seen hovering under the fly prior to eating it (and sometimes not eating it). Super cool and nerve-racking at the same time. Michael Bennet Photo. May 2018.
