SA Custom Length Sink Tips

Scientific Anglers

$14.75 - $67.25

Order SA Custom Length Sink Tips in any length you need. We'll build nice, clean loops on both ends so they are ready to attach and fish when they arrive. These T-material sink tips are perfect for Spey tips on Skagit heads or for making your own ultra-fast sinking shooting heads.

Scientific Anglers' bulk sink-tip material is available in T-9, T-12 and T-15 and is very similar to the T-material offered by RIO or Airflo. Due to recent changes by both of those manufacturers, this SA T-material is the stuff to get.

T-material tips are commonly used to connect to Skagit heads for Spey rods.  In the longer lengths, they can also be used as super-fast sinking shooting heads when attached to a thin running line for fly fishing at ultimate depths.

These SA Custom Length Sink Tips are durable and sink FAST. Order them based on the size that suits your needs (see description of sizes below) and the lengths you would like. All tips come with loops on both ends.

Scientific Angers T-9, T-12 and T-15 bulk sink tip material has the following specifications:

T-9:

SA has not made the actual sink rate for T-9 available yet, but it should be right around 7-inches per second. It weighs 9 grains per foot. T-9 is the best choice for most single-handed rods when you want to connect the sink-tip to the head of your floating line and make your own “multi-tip” system. (NOTE: It is highly recommended that you cut off the forward taper of your floating line, build a loop, and attach a sink-tip with a total weight close to the same as that which you cut off for single-handed rods). It is also the best choice for lighter Skagit heads of around 450 grains or lighter.

T-12:

SA has not made the actual sink rate for T-12 available yet, but it should be right around 8-inches per second. T-12 weighs 12 grains per foot and is the best choice for many Spey applications in our opinion. We recommend T-12 for Skagit heads in grain weights between 475 and 625 grains.

T-15:

SA has not made the actual sink rate for T-15 available yet, but it should be right around 9-inches per second. T-15 weighs 15 grains per foot and is the ideal choice on Skagit heads above 625 grains.

SA T-material uses a multifilament core for low stretch and a supple, memory free line. This core is also resilient to heat, allowing us to heat weld loops without compromising the strength of the core.  The core is also acceptable for splicing the T-material into the core of other multifilament core fly lines to make spliced sink-tip lines.
