Having the reel fully enclosed in the lower half of the reel  creates a counter balance, keeping the majority of the weight of the reel down low where it should be, yet it still allows for an overall lightweight package. Hardy has also left the outer rim of the spool exposed so the reel can be palmed as well. The disc drag on the Hardy Ultradisc UDLA reels is super smooth and has a wide range, allowing the angler to finely tune the drag as needed.
