Heading to East Cape Baja for Roosterfish? Joe Dirt is a mandatory addition to your fly box. This is a hot fly to imitate mullet (thus the name, Joe Dirt) and has proven effective for numerous customers of ours. It is also a good imitation of milkfish and small bonefish other fish may be feeding on.
Like most Roosterfish flies, the 4/0 Joe Dirt is a big baitfish pattern that is ideally cast on the appropriate gear for beach (or boat) fishing East Cape Baja. Ten or eleven weight rods, good quality reels, and intermediate sinking shooting head lines are the name of the game.
Also recommended for Giant Trevally on Christmas Island.
Sizes:
4/0 - Approximately 6-inches in length. Recommended for most Roosterfish situations and for Giant Trevally.
1/0 - Approximately 4.75-inches in length. Recommended when Roosterfish are eating smaller bait or when fishing lighter rods for smaller fish. Also recommended for numerous other species like snook, redfish, tarpon.
