Galvan Torque ReelsI have been around this industry for 13+ years. The Galvan Torque has been around just as long. This is a time-proven reel that will work harder than you can. In the shop, I have seen two Torque reels come back due to malfunction. That is an incredible track record. The best in the business as far as I’m concerned. Sleek and appealing aesthetics make the Torque pair perfectly with any rod. The large arbor makes for fast retrieving and the drag, although not sealed, does not fail. Fresh or sal...
Lite BriteThis super thin, soft, flashy material is useful for so many things. I constantly use it in everything from steelhead flies (like the Halo, Last Light, and Exasperator) to trout nymphs. In fact, last night I was using it to add some flash to EP Fibers while tying tarpon flies. Thinner and more supple than Angel Hair, Lite Brite is also great for mixing into just about any dubbing to add flash. To do this, just chop up some Lite Brite and fold it into the dubbing by hand.

Lake WhatcomI guided on Lake Whatcom on Monday with customer Arne and his two sons, Blake and Dakota. We had a great day and good weather. The fish were pretty tough but we got plenty of little guys and had a couple good-sized smallmouth up to the boat but they managed to get off. Overall, we caught smallmouth, yellow perch and a few really nice cutthroat throughout the day. Blake and Dakota had never cast a fly rod before in their lives. They were great students, listened well, were fishing in no time. ...

Pass LakeAh, Pass Lake. I love this lake and feel so fortunate to have such a great trout fishery so close to where we live. Yes, I know… the road along the south side of the lake is noisy, but I guess that doesn’t bother me too much (except for the occasional dumbass that feels compelled to yell some incomprehensible garble while driving by in a ’84 Pontiac Fiero with a fabulous primer gray and Bondo paint scheme). Okay, other than that, I love this lake. So I rolled into the parking lot at about 10...
Mid June UpdateIt’s late spring in Western Washington and June 1st signals the opener for our local rivers. Summer-run steelhead fishing has finally arrived. Although the calendar might say it’s the sixth month and New Years is January 1st, I tend to count my years starting mostly with the steelhead seasons. So June 1st to me is the start of a new year for fishing tallies. Last year brought us many steelhead but very few landed and even less hooked up for more than two head shakes. So June was going to be t...
Airflo Xtreme Running LineBeing a steelhead and spey junkie I have become very familiar with most of the running lines on the market today. I have never been a mono running line guy for those that know me. I have given them their fair shake and fished them, they just don't feel right to me. I do however enjoy the lack of tangling that mono produces along with the lack of friction and the distance that it can produce. This is where the Airlfo Xtreme Running Line works the best for me. This line is harder and s...
Intex Quick-Fill Electric PumpNext time you’re inflating a pontoon boat from 0% to full, ask yourself if you’d pay 25-bucks to have it done in a few seconds! Although you will still need a hand pump to get the pressure you need, this electric pump will inflate 90% of each of those pontoons in about 20 seconds. Then just use the hand pump to top them off to proper pressure. Quite the back saver!
